Strategic IT Project Management for Leading Restaurant Co.

A national restaurant company sought a collaborative leader with retail expertise to lead an IT system roll-out across its store base.



The Challenge

A leading restaurant holding company was building a cohesive IT system across its store base to more easily roll out future technology enhancements and customer-facing initiatives. They needed a project manager to drive the implementation via financial planning and strategy, and craft a change management plan with key stakeholders. The role was structured to provide momentum to a cross-functional team to ensure a successful implementation.  


The Expert

The client selected Carlos, an expert with pre-MBA operations experience at top US retailer, a degree from Harvard Business School, and consulting experience with Boston Consulting Group. His previous experience at a large retail brand allowed him to effectively collaborate cross-functionally and drive change within the organization, and his specific experiences as a Business Analyst and Negotiations Lead were aligned to the analytics and change management portion of the role.  


The Project

Carlos served as Chief of Staff to the CIO, helping manage various work streams for the project and portions of the day-to-day IT business that are critical to forming the implementation strategy. Much of the work centered on developing financial models to understand the detailed costs of the business and implementation, as well as drive strategic decisions for the company. The work helped maintain alignment across finance, strategy, and IT as each function prepared for a negotiation with franchisees about how the client will co-fund the upgrade.  


The Results
