The Spotlight Is on Inc.

In keeping with technology innovation, Inc.com recently published a great piece on AI and machine learning. Kevin J. Ryan, Staff writer at Inc., explains the collaborative robots (co-bots, for short) being used at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science. The Department of Machine Learning is using the co-bots to conduct research about how robots and humans can work together.

Mainly autonomous, the co-bots do simple tasks such as distribute mail and deliver messages. They also greet visitors and direct them to where they need to go. But there are some drawbacks, of course. According to Lionel Robert, a robotics professor at the University of Michigan, scientists are trying to “find ways for people to have an emotional bond with it [the robot],” in order to ease people into working alongside such AI.

Inc. also published an article last week about how digital disruptions affect the future of work. Forward-thinking companies are responding to disruption by thinking about talent in new ways and leveraging on-demand talent platforms to find boutique consultancies and individual consultants with specialized skills. “Contract work is the name of the game for most companies with an eye on the future,” contributor Ilya Pozin, Founder of Pluto TV, notes.

According to the 2017 Freelancing in America study conducted by Edelman Intelligence, the majority of the U.S. workforce will be working in a freelance capacity by 2027.
