In our view, a mention in Gartner’s research is a validation of a technology company’s vision and ability to deliver for its customers. We were delighted to be mentioned in eight different research reports over the past 12 months, including four different Hype Cycle reports and a Cool Vendors report.

We’re grateful for Gartner’s acknowledgment. More importantly, though, we’re convinced that our representation across different topics and categories is evidence of something bigger: we’re part of a new category of software that bridges the gap between strategy and execution.

A company’s strategy is its plan to achieve its most important goals. Strategy execution means aligning work with the company’s plan and goals. One of the most critical parts of doing that is aligning the workforce with the work that needs to get done.

Why is aligning the right people with strategic work so important?

Labor costs account for as much as 70% of a company’s total costs; most companies’ solutions for aligning strategic work and workforces take too long, cost too much, and are too hard to use. Most executives are deeply dissatisfied with how their workforces are – or, more accurately, aren’t – aligned to their strategies today. The costs are too great for workforce alignment to only be a human resources concern. That’s why business leaders, transformation leaders, and enterprise PMO leaders are increasingly taking greater accountability for what, financially, should clearly be a high priority for the business.

The Gartner report Cool Vendors in Human Capital Management: Transforming Talent to Drive the Digital Workplace (complimentary download here), which includes Catalant as a Cool Vendor in the category, states how “A lack of insight regarding skills required and skills that will be retired as a result of the digital workplace is creating challenges for organizations that wish to plan with accurate predictions for the digital workplace.” The report also finds that “Talent mobility remains cumbersome despite widespread adoption of workforce management and project planning tools. Getting the most value out of all types of workers is compromising the balance of skills and talent for many organizations.”

Separately, Gartner’s Hype Cycle for the Digital Workplace, 2019 (complimentary download here) lists Catalant as a Sample Vendor in the Internal Talent Marketplaces section.  This report, which classifies Internal Talent Marketplaces as “Benefit Rating: Transformational,” notes that “Large enterprises looking to push innovation to the edges may be encumbered by heavy management and control structures. Internal talent marketplaces have the potential to change that. They establish trust through feedback mechanisms. They allow for worker-led innovation and contribute to workers fully taking control of their own careers. They mean much better and more granular tracking of skills, competencies, knowledge and interest of individual workers. This, in turn, will allow enterprises to have a much better view into their workforce and improve workforce planning. They will enable tomorrow’s more lean, agile and adaptive organizations.”

Meanwhile, Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Multienterprise Solutions, 2019, aimed to help leaders identify options for platforms to support their B2B ecosystem as well as their digital business transformation, cites Catalant as a Sample Vendor for Freelancer Management Systems. For those of you who have followed us since the HourlyNerd days, we imagine that this doesn’t come as a surprise to you. Our Expert Marketplace continues to be a core strength and differentiator of our platform. Many of the world’s leading companies continue to partner with us to accelerate pivotal work with flexible access to elite independent consultants and firms.

The bottom line is that there are very different ways of thinking about what Catalant does, with areas of overlap ranging from PPM and project planning to workforce management and internal talent marketplaces to freelancer management systems. Why?

Strategy execution sits at the center of what a company does, how it works, and the people who make it happen. Catalant helps companies organize strategic work, access and allocate the people needed to do it, and track progress against what they set out to achieve.

It starts with capturing a business’ strategic objectives, breaking down and aligning work with the value it needs to drive, accessing and allocating the right employees and external resources from our Expert Marketplace, measuring work’s progress and value, and providing data-driven intelligence to improve how it all gets done. We designed the Catalant Platform this way because of the insights we’ve learned from customers, who include more than 30% of the Fortune 100.
